Hello My Friends, On Saturday, May 5th, rain or shine, I will be out "Walking Against Hunger" with an amazing community of people who believe that no one should go hungry. For the past 5 years, I have been working with the Fern Street Food Ministry of the Universalist Church in West Hartford. We are committed to making making sure that everyone has access to healthy nutritious food. I am so proud of our volunteers and how we are growing our programs. We continue to look for ways to reach the underserved. Currently, we are providing food to over 300 people a week. The assistance we provide spans all age groups from school children to the elderly. Our Pantry is unique because it provides frozen meats, dairy, eggs and fresh produce as available to those we serve. Our partnership with Foodshare is a huge part of what makes all of our programs possible.
I am asking you to help me reach my goal of raising $500. I am walking to benefit the Fern Street Food Ministry. This means that half of the dollars that I raise will directly benefit our Foodshare supported programs. (These are the Weekend Backpack, Community Breakfast, Pantry and Mobile Foodshare Truck distribution programs.) The other half of your donation will benefit Foodshare and all of the important work they do. Last year alone, Foodshare was able to provide enough food for nearly 12 million meals to help our friends and neighbors in Greater Hartford. More than 1/3 of that food was fresh produce, giving families healthy options. In supporting the Foodshare Walk Against Hunger, you will allow this important work to continue.
Regardless of how much you donate, please know that your funds are helping make sure all of our neighbors have access to enough healthy food. You can donate through my personal fundraising page, or by sending a check made out to Foodshare to 450 Woodland Ave Bloomfield, CT 06002. Please be sure to include my name and "Walk" in the memo line!
Thank you for your support. Together, we will be one step closer to a hunger-free community. Maxine
