BUILDING A MOVEMENT
Creating a hunger-free community means eliminating unnecessary roadblocks for those seeking help and making it easy to get connected with programs that can provide that help.
To make this a reality, we need a vibrant partnership of individuals and organizations – an army of caring, committed and passionate people, here in Greater Hartford, who can change the conversation about hunger.

INCREASING INDEPENDENCE
It is critical that we help people become independent if we are to ensure that everyone has enough. Foodshare is only able to meet about half of the need. While we will continue maximizing donations of healthy food, we will never be able to end hunger without the ability to double in size. That’s why advocates, volunteers, donors and partners will need to focus on reducing the need. This means distributing enough food to close the gap between what people are able to purchase and what Federal Nutrition Programs can provide.

IMPROVING CORE NUTRITION PROGRAMS
Government-funded nutrition programs provide the majority of food that hungry people receive, and with remarkable efficiency! Yet many families, including those with young children, do not receive these meals that they need and deserve. Connecticut is a small state, with plenty of innovation…we should be able to figure out how to make these kid-centric programs the best in the nation! We need to focus our attention on increasing participation in the core nutrition programs, including: School Breakfast, Summer Food, & SNAP.
